Shellee Callahan, Principal, Pinion, LLC
As head of Pinion’s tax function, Shellee Callahan leads the charge firmwide for uncovering growth and tax-saving opportunities for progressive companies and the families who own them.
With more than 15 years of accounting experience, Shellee also offers business management and tax strategies, and oversees business financial statement and audit services to a range of manufacturing businesses. As businesses mature or the owners’ needs change, she involves the firm’s estate planning specialists who, working closely with Shellee, assist companies as they approach a transfer in ownership.
Shellee’s extensive knowledge of tax rules and her keen business insights enable her to identify benefits from various tax programs. For example:
- Increasing working capital by $7.5 million for an ethanol manufacturer through a cost-segregation study that accelerated depreciation on its new multi-million dollar plant.
- Advising a manufacturer on how to qualify for applicable state-tax incentives that increased their profits by $3.5 million over five years.
- Creating about $1 million in additional working capital for an agricultural equipment manufacturer through previously untapped export incentives.
As the daughter of a business owner, Shellee Callahan learned early on about the challenges that entrepreneurs face, and the importance of sound accounting and financial management. Working for a manufacturer while she attended college gave her a solid understanding of inventory management, behind-the-scenes analysis, and day-to-day decision-making that most outside accountants never see. Due to her background, Shellee sees business issues from the owner’s vantage point, effectively identifying and communicating improvements, savings, and untapped growth opportunities.
